Granny’s Dried Fruits

Drying fruit can be done indoors or outdoors. Different methods can be used to dry fruit. After fruit is dried, cool completely and store in air tight containers.

Sun Dry: Window screen can be stretched onto any size wood frame. You will need two screened frames. Put your sliced fruit on a bottom screen and cover with top screen. Put on the roof of your house or a shed. This method can take from three to seven days depending on how thick you slice and the type of fruit you are drying.

Dehydrator: Any type of dehydrator will do. Slice fruit and place on trays and dehydrate at approximately 90-140° F. (depending on the type of fruit) or follow instructions for the dehydrator. Each type of dehydrator is different. This method can take from 8-10 hours to 2 days depending on how thick you slice and the type of fruit you are drying.

Oven: Place sliced fruit on Heat Resistant Screened frames (ones that will not melt from the heat). Preheat oven to 90-140° F. This can take from 10 hours to 3 days depending on how thick you slice and the type of fruit you are drying.
