Tamale Pie

1 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 ½ lbs ground beef
14 oz can tomatoes or 1 pint
16 oz can whole kernel corn, drained or 2 cups fresh
2 to 3 tsp chili powder
2 tsp salt
½ cup ripe olives, sliced
1 ½ cups cheddar cheese, grated

1 cup corn meal
1 cup milk
2 eggs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Brown beef in a skillet, add onions and garlic; cook until tender. Drain fat. Add tomatoes, corn and seasonings, cover and simmer 15 minutes. Pour into 9×13 baking dish. Top with sliced olives. Slowly and carefully top with cornmeal mixture; sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 45 minutes.
