Homemade Italian Meat Sauce

Homemade Italian Meat Sauce

1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup olive oil
1 lb. lean ground beef
2 Italian sausages, chopped
2 quarts sliced tomatoes
12 oz. tomato paste
2 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp leaf oregano
1 Tbsp leaf basil
1 Tbsp salt
½ tsp pepper
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until soft.    Brown beef and sausage.    Pour off all but 2 Tbsp fat in skillet. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, crumbled oregano, crumbled basil, salt and pepper.    Simmer uncovered, stirring frequently, for 45 minutes or until sauce thickens.    Stir in cheese, cool.


May freeze for later use.   Wonderful to have on hand.
