Granny’s Butter Buns

Granny’s Butter Buns

Rolls….
2 cups sifted flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
¾ cup buttermilk, whole milk or canned milk will do
1/3 cup shortening
½ cup butter, room temperature, 1 stick

Sweet Milk Sauce….
2 cups whole milk or cream
2/3 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Butter a 9×9 baking pan….

Sift together dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Add milk until dough forms. Roll out dough onto lightly floured board into 15 x 8 inches or there about. Spread with soft butter. Roll up rectangle, jelly roll fashion, starting from on long side. Slice in 1 ½ inch slices.

Arrange the slices, cut side down, in prepared baking pan. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

In a saucepan over medium low heat, mix cream and sugar until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat, add vanilla. Pour over rolls and serve…..

Or serve with out glaze….

Variations.

Mix 3/4 cup sugar and 1 Tbsp cinnamon and sprinkle on top of butter before you roll up…..

Pour Sweet milk sauce over rolls and then bake until golden brown….
