Granny’s Ginger Cream Cookies

Granny’s Ginger Cream Cookies


½ cup sugar

1/3 cup butter

1 egg

½ cup molasses

½ cup water

2 cups flour

1 tsp ginger

½ tsp salt

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp nutmeg

½ tsp cloves

½ tsp cinnamon


Mix sugar, butter, egg, molasses and water.   Stir in remaining ingredients.   Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour or over night.


Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.   Drop dough by spoon about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.   Bake until almost no indentation remains when touched, about 8 minutes.   Immediately remove from cookie sheet and cool.   Frost with Vanilla butter frosting (see below).   Makes 4 dozen cookies.


Vanilla Butter Frosting


½ cup butter

1 tsp vanilla

2 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp milk


Mix butter and powdered sugar until creamy.   Beat in vanilla and milk until smooth and of spreading consistency.
