Granny’s Hamburger Buns

2 pkgs. yeast
¼ cup sugar
½ cup warm water
6 cups sifted flour
½ cup nonfat dry milk
Sesame or poppy seeds (optional)
1 Tbsp salt
2 cups water
2 eggs, beaten
½ cup melted shortening

Combine yeast, sugar and warm water. Let stand until yeast is softened. Stir until dissolved.

Sift together, flour, dry milk and salt into large bow. Make well in center of dry ingredients.

Pour in water, yeast mixture, eggs and oil. Mix well. Cover, let rise in warm place for 1 hour.

Turn dough on to floured board, turning to coat well. Pinch off pieces about the size of an egg. Place smooth side upon a greased baking sheet 3 inches apart. Brush with egg and milk mixture. Sprinkle with seeds, if using. Let rise 20 minutes. Bake at 425 degrees F. for 8 to 12 minutes. Makes 30 buns.
