Walnut Raisin Bars

Walnut Raisin Bars


1 + 2/3 cups sugar

2/3 cup butter

1 + 1 tsp vanilla

1 + 3 eggs

2 cups flour

½ cup corn syrup

¼ cup molasses

1 cup broken walnuts or pecans

1 cup seedless raisins


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.   Mix 1 cup sugar, butter, 1 tsp vanilla and 1 egg.   Stir in flour.   Press dough in ungreased 9×13 baking dish.   Bake until edges are light brown, about 15 minutes.


Beat 3 eggs, 2/3 cup sugar, corn syrup, molasses and 1 tsp vanilla.   Stir in nuts and raisins, and pour over crust.   Bake until set, about 25 to 30 minutes.   Cool completely, loosen edges from sides of pan and cut into bars.


Variation: use honey in place of corn syrup
