Granny’s Apple Dumplings

Granny’s Apple Dumplings


1 1/4 cup shortening
2 scant tsp. salt
3 cup flour
1 egg, beaten
5 Tbsp. water
1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar


Blend shortening, salt and flour. Add egg, water and vinegar. Mix. Form into ball, divide in quarters then roll out each quarter, cut in 4 squares, you will have 16 squares.


Dumpling Sauce:

2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter
2 cup water
1/2 tsp. cinnamon


Mix in a sauce pan butter, brown sugar, water and cinnamon until melted and well blended over a medium heat.   Remove from heat and set aside.


Peel and quarter 16 small apples. Roll apples in sugar and cinnamon.


Place 4 apple quarters on each square and pull sides up and wet edges.


Place in baking dish, open edges down then pour sauce over dumplings and bake 30 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees F.


Can be prepared and frozen and baked on another day.
